HVMS student wins Roanoke Co. Spelling Bee
Altarpiece. That’s the word Sreeroopa Som spelled in the 14th round to win the annual Roanoke County Spelling Bee. Som, an 8th grade student at Hidden Valley Middle School, advances to the Roanoke Regional Spelling Bee March 17. Madison Saunders from W.E. Cundiff Elementary is the alternate for Roanoke County.
The winner of the regional spelling bee will advance to the national spelling bee held in Washington, D.C. beginning May 27.
“We’re very proud of all our students. It takes a great deal of hard work to reach the county event,” said Joe LeGault, Coordinator of English. “We’ve had a few students from Roanoke County advance to the national competition and we wish Sreeroopa the best of luck,” LeGault added.
