Wymer named school board chairman for 2011

At the regular school board meeting January 13, the Roanoke County School Board unanimously voted Catawba District member David Wymer as chairman for 2011. Cave Spring District member H. Odell “Fuzzy” Minnix was unanimously voted Vice-Chairman.
Wymer was elected to the Roanoke County School Board in 2007. He retired from Roanoke County Public Schools in 2006 after serving for 31 ½ years as a classroom teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, social studies supervisor, and associate director of testing and remediation. Wymer has experience working with teachers at all three levels – elementary, middle, and high school.
“I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence and teamwork this board has become well known for,” Wymer said. “We have many difficult issues to tackle, and I’m confident that together we will make the best decisions to meet the needs of our students, staff and community,” Wymer added.
Minnix was elected to the Roanoke County School Board in 2007. He previously served 12 years on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors, three years as chairman. Minnix was a long-time coach for several teams in Roanoke County Public Schools, including football, softball and track.
